PostSubject: Yo!   Yo! EmptyWed Nov 28, 2007 1:25 pm

Yo, everybody.

Thought I'd introduce myself here. Just registered here for some mind-expanding (is that what it's called? Man, translating Swedish to English is a pain in the ----) discussions.

So... About me, hm...?

Well, I enjoy...uh...a lot. scratch ...except sports. I hate sports. But, I do enjoy talking about conspiracies. Aliens, 9/11, Illuminati, ghosts, I'm all game. Oh, but my favorite definitely is the Dulce base theory. Not sure what I think about it yet, but somebody quite obviously whacked Phil Schneider for a reason, so... Neutral And of course, I'm a prime specimen of the fleshification of the idea to hire a Russian PMC to storm Area 51, and free (or imprison, depending on whether or not they shoot on us) the aliens hidden there. Wink

Other than copnspiracy theories (I DO have a life, ya know.) I do so enjoy watching anime, reading (about conspiracies, of course, heh), and when I find the time and patience, meditate and read in on shamanism. (And boy, do I need more free time!) And, of course, I do enjoy a good fantasy adventure from time to time, as well as a good video game (Jade Empire, Area 51, Metal Gear Solid series, comes to mind, heh).

Well, that's all I can think of for now.

Oh, yeah... I'm also a big fan of Trust Company. They rock!

Well... Take care now, bye-bye then. Hey2

Oh, and P.S... I do love the emoticons here, Neuro. Wink

"Sorry, ma'am. You're on a need to know basis, and you don't need to know. That's classified Above Umbra. Move along, nothing to see here."

Hehe, just kidding. S.V is Speculative Vision. That's a forum for fantasy and Sci-Fi authors extraordinare, a place where others can bash your stories, or raise 'em to the skies, and a place where you can play online RPG's....'n stuff. It's a really cool place, though they are a bit skeptic towards alien abductions and the reptilian aliens conspiracy. Ah well. Razz

Blue Water and Night Star, thank you, it's great to be here. pirat

'Oh, I see' said the blind man, Speculative Vision.

I haven't ever really been into roleplaying (Well not outside the bedroom anyway Razz ). I think I have heard of that forum before though. Isn't it a bit contradictory that fantasy writers would be sceptical about alien abductions and the paranormal? Wouldn't that make them professional liars for writing about it and kind of making it a reality in print (even if it did all come from their imagination)?

Hmm, no wonder there is so much fear tied in with all this stuff Ghostie

Well, can't say I've been, either. Wink At least not until I ended up on Speculative Vision.

But, yeah, I guess it's a bit contradictory. My guess is that many "skeptics" believe in aliens without knowing about it. That is, they are afraid of aliens, to put it bluntly. (Seriously, me as well. The first time I saw a Grey on a photo, I almost ------- myself. Twice!) But that's just my completely uneducated guess.

Though role-playing IS fun. Smile

...in the bed-room, and otherwise. Wink

Yeah we basically feel the same about the fear thing. They spend so much time discussing paranormal issues just to debunk them. Rolling Eyes

Yeah, I guess. Still, I find myself sometimes wishing I was a skeptic. Rolling Eyes Then I wouldn't have to worry about getting ----probed every time I go to sleep. Suspect

Seriously, though...
I've got no probs with skeptics - everybody has the right to their own opinion.
I do, however, find it intriguing that skeptics often find themselves needing to lower themselves to insults and being nasty towards us conspiracy theorists, instead of indulging in intelligent and civilized discussions. Ah, well. At least with me, I'll know who to blame if I wake up with a sore butt or nose bleed one morning. affraid

Skepticism is great - in it's true form (having an open mind, considering all the information and questioning from that perspective). But when it is plain debunking or disagreeing out of ego or a power trip then it is quite offensive and of no value whatsoever.

I think we need to talk about those things that create fear in a constructive and respectful way. I have no scepticism at all about alien abduction. I know it is true because it happened to me.

Yeah but by definition a sceptic is someone who rejects something, not someone who considers both sides.

Quote :
dictionary.com says:

skep·tic also scep·tic (skěp'tĭk) Pronunciation Key

1. One who instinctively or habitually doubts, questions, or disagrees with assertions or generally accepted conclusions.
2. One inclined to skepticism in religious matters.

I draw my understanding of scepticism from science and psychology. "Scepticism means always questioning assumptions or conclusions and analysing whether the evidence presented supports the results. For example, you should not accept an assertion merely because it is in print or is delivered by a person in a position of authority. You should check the rigour of the process used to get to that assertion." p 63 Psychology (Australia and New Zealand Edition) 2006, Westen, Burton & Kowalski. Scepticism in my opinion is not aligned solely with disproving or proving but weighs a balance between both. It is one of three principles associated with critical thought (the others being objectivity and open-mindedness). I am being way too intellectual here, I know... Razz Just trying to express how I arrived at my different view of what scepticism involves. There are many definitions out there, but I truly feel the original purpose of scepticism has been badly misconstrued and given a negative connotation. It is not about disproving - it is about analysis.

Here now, I agree! Hey2

The true skeptic:
"We must never accept outrageous conspiracy theories..." Well, duh, everyone knows you're an alien anyway so your words don't carry much weight. I don't listen to aliens, mothers, or presidents of the USA. ...not sure how that belonged here but ah, well. lol!

I see, so science teaches that the word 'sceptic' means something different from the dictionary. Then the dictionary should incorporate this alternate definition for the rest of us to see. Rolling Eyes
